The Quartz Hill Foursquare Church
had its first meeting in the Quartz Hill Grange Hall on 50th Street West
on the third Sunday of March 1954. In attendance were three people: Rev.
and Mrs. Fred Klingenmeier, and their son, Fred Jr. The Klingenmeiers
were diligent in their ministry and received permission to purchase property
on September 26, 1954. In their first year, there were 211 converts and
an average attendance of 24. The largest attendance was in March 1956
with 66 people.
Pastor Klingenmeier resigned April
1956 and Rev. and Mrs. Don Taylor came to be the pastors. They had 4 children,
Bruce and Charlene-17 years old twins, Kenneth Paul-7, and Timothy-5.
The church voted unanimously to purchase the Country Church of the Valley
located at 4058 West Avenue L rather than to try to build a new facility.
A new partition was built to help divide the six Sunday school classrooms.
The attendance was between 40 and 50. Eva Wooley was the Sunday School
Superintendent. The Crusaders and Bereans, as well as prayer meetings,
were a part of the full schedule of the church.
The next pastors were W.R. and Janice
McLaren. They obtained an official church charter on August 30, 1960.
The church received some equipment from the Littlerock Foursquare Church
in February 1961, such as a Baldwin Organ, tables, 21 chairs, a speaker
unit, and a communion set. There were 21 charter members: Rev. W.R. &
Janice McLaren, B.M. and Margaret Gipson & B.M. Jr., Bruce and Charlene
McLaren, Ray Jr. and Joanne Hull, Martha Anderson, Floriene Morgan, Jack
and Opal Sessions, Robert and Helen Wmchester, Rayrnond and Joann & Clara
Willis, Mrs. Daisy Barnes, and Alfred and Geraldine Stuart.
The church was pastored next by Ray
E. Hull in 1962, followed by Glen Perry and then Robert Harrison in 1964.
A church mortgage was paid off on April 23, 1964. The church received
an award that year for excellence in Sunday school. More classrooms were
added in 1966 and the church received another award, this time for their
missionary offerings from their children's ministry.
Fred Cattrell came to be pastor on
April 8, 1968. Willard and Vivian Parrish began as pastors in 1970. During
this time the church experienced a real revival and the attendance increased
quite dramatically.
In 1974 and 1975, Mirl and Nelda Searles pastored the church. They were
followed by Henry and Edna Schmidt, who later went on to be camp directors
at Camp Cedar Crest and Old Oak Ranch.
Mark and Donna Fitzlaff then became
the pastors on August 30, 1977. The Fitzlaffs were instrumental in purchasing
the property where the old church offices were located. A property loan
was paid off during their ministry. They pastored for 5 years.
Next came Dan and Connie Stewart in
November 1982. The ministry of the Quartz Hill Foursquare Church flourished
under their leadership. The church was able to purchase 2 small houses
and a fourplex apartment building. They also led the church in the building
of a fellowship hall which would later serve as the church sanctuary.
Under the Stewart's leadership, the church grew from under 50 people to
more than 300. In the 15 years here, many new ministries were started,
among those was the Noah's Ark Preschool. In 1997, they sensed a call
to pursue new opportunities to minister, both at L.I.F.E. Bible College
and with our denomination as Coordinator of the L.E.A.D. Program (a learning
enrichment program for pastors).
On May 30, 1997 Pastor Sean and Kay
Appleton began to serve as our current pastors. In February 1998, the
church sold its property on Avenue L, and began the process of building
a new facility here on 60th Street West. God blessed the faith and hard
work of the people, and on Easter 2000, the church met in the new facility
for the first time! The building was dedicated on May 19, 2000.
We, as a church, are so thankful to
God for His kindness and grace in all the things He is doing through this
church. Last year, over 1000 people accepted Christ through the 36 ministries
of our church.
Praise the Lord! We thank God for
our past and are excited about what God wants to do in the future!

About Our QHFC Logo:
The Quartz Hill Foursquare
Church Logo not only reflects the actual profile of the church building
roofline, but also shows an abstact rendition of the crucifixion of our
precious Lord. The logo shown on this billboard was designed by David A.
Walker of DWGraphics to reflect hand chisled type and a handpainted cross
and mountain. The
painting at the top of this page, by Marci Bishop, shows the appearance
of the roofline of phase one of our new building.
